Nintendo has a long history of creating must-have consoles with epic libraries of first-party games. However, one area that they need to improve is their online capabilities so here's a wish list of features that would make Switch even more awesome.
When Microsoft introduced the gaming world to achievements with the debut of Xbox 360, gamers didn't quite know what to think. What is a gamerscore and why should I bother? Soon after, players got addicted and this aspect of gaming became engraved in the culture. PlayStation later introduced a similar system with trophies and Steam has their own achievement system, too. However, the closest system Nintendo has is that some games feature unlockable stamps that you can use in miiverse posts. In the end, it's disappointing that there's no way to compare game progress with your friends besides game-specific leaderboards so let's hope the Nintendo Switch incorporates a similar (or better) system to its competitors.
More seamless miiverse implementation
I love the miiverse. That being said, it sure can be a pain to use. Whenever I want to share something; I have to go through clunky menus, wait for way too long for it to load, then finally post a screenshot or funny comment. I hope the Nintendo Switch allows you to boot up miiverse by the tap of a button so you can share what you want and get right back to your game without delays.
Although I'm not a big fan of Twitch, there are so many streamers out there nowadays that not being able to stream straight from your console would be an obvious missed opportunity. It's a lot easier than setting up a PVR and managing the stream on a computer.
Ability to create and join parties
Nintendo has loads of incredible multiplayer games. Imagine inviting a large group of virtual friends to hop between games like Mario Kart, Mario Sports Mix, Super Smash Bros., Dr. Mario, and Mario Party. Now, that would be one awesome online get-together.
Online-capable mobile play
Considering the Nintendo Switch can both be played on the big screen and on the go, it would be very cool to be able to play online when you're out and about. Even if you have to use a Wi-Fi signal, gamers would still have more freedom when they take their Switch out of their living room. If this is implemented, make sure you play with a cool head or else McDonald's may kick you out.
Subscription service with benefits
No matter how you slice it, having to pay to play online sucks. However, both Sony and Microsoft offer plenty of discounts, free games, and benefits that I honestly don't mind paying for yearly subscriptions. Sure, they have the somewhat new My Nintendo system where you can redeem coins for some goodies but if Nintendo offered Virtual Console games and other freebies every month; I'd definitely pay for a subscription service. That is, as long as they offer just as many incentives as their competitors.
I'm very excited for Nintendo Switch's release next year. Even if none of these features are implemented, it'll still be a fantastic system. Are you looking forward to Nintendo Switch? What features would you like to see? Let's talk in the comments below!
