This week, I take a look at our very first hidden gem for EA Play and Feeding Frenzy is quite a fun throwback to the Xbox 360 days.
│ Feeding Frenzy is available with an EA Play membership (included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate). 🎮
I got an Xbox 360 a few years after it debuted and remember having a blast catching up on all of the Xbox Live Arcade games that I've been missing out on. One way that I accomplished this was purchasing a lot of compilations which were actually less pricy than buying the individual games and a couple of my favourite collections were the 2 PopCap Arcade volumes which feature games such as Bejeweled 2 Deluxe, AstroPop, Zuma Deluxe, Peggle, and Heavy Weapon: Atomic Tank. Although I had great fun with all of these games, I especially remember Feeding Frenzy due to its unique dodge 'em up gameplay and clever premise. v1d30chumz 35-172-230-154
Specifically, Feeding Frenzy has you play as a little fish and it's your goal to eat fish that are smaller than you until you grow bigger and can then eat larger fish. However, if you come in contact with a fish that's bigger than you then you'll get eaten so the gameplay is all about swimming around carefully. Thankfully, there's a dash button if you need to quickly get out of the way and there are also nifty scoring mechanics that will reward you for how efficiently you play. It may be a simple game but whenever I play it, I get hooked! 🎣Feeding Frenzy gameplay video →
As you progress through Feeding Frenzy's many stages, you'll encounter loads of new mechanics and it all adds up to one satisfying campaign with a superb difficulty curve. Things may start out simply enough but as it all ramps up and you do things like snag pearls from oysters, dodge incoming barracudas, collect speed boosts, avoid unpredictable sharks, gain the ability to suck fish towards you, stun enemies with a power-up, and try not to get poisoned; you'll be impressed with how complex it becomes over time. 😅
Another aspect that I appreciate about Feeding Frenzy is its extras. For starters, the fun facts that are presented between stages are a nice touch whether you're learning about actual sea life or being introduced to some handy tips. Once you master the campaign which admittedly doesn't take all that long, you can challenge Time Attack mode for an even steeper challenge. Plus, both modes still have active leaderboards although the top scorers are so ridiculously high that I don't even understand how it's possible. 🤯
That's about all there is to Feeding Frenzy. If you're subscribed to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate then try it out and let me know what you think. I know it's a little dated but it's still a heck of a lot of fun; at least, I think it is. 😊
