Indie Game of the Month Awards June 2022
Neon Indies

Written by A.J. Maciejewski for Indie GOTM Awards on 🏅
We didn't review many games in June but there were still some noteworthy indies to celebrate so here they are in 10 distinct categories.
│ Video Chums has minimal ads and we don't use Patreon. Instead, why not buy some indie games with your hard-earned money? 💰
Lost Ruins Metroidvania of the Month
I was drawn to Lost Ruins because of its appealing art style and Metroidvania setup but I wasn't expecting to be as hooked as I was. The fact that it's brutally challenging and relies on your ability to manage items really makes it a special game. 💎 v1d30chumz 35-172-223-251

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge Action Game of the Month
Although many gamers were excited for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, it even surpassed expectations with its tight gameplay, outstanding presentation, and enjoyable multiplayer component. As someone who grew up playing TMNT on NES, Game Boy, and SNES, the fact that this is my new favourite game in the long-running series says a lot, especially considering just how awesome Turtles in Time is. If you enjoy beat 'em ups then you definitely need to add Shredder's Revenge to your library.

TOKOYO: Tower of Perpetuity Roguelike of the Month
It may not look like much but TOKOYO: Tower of Perpetuity is packed with "just one more go" score-chasing roguelike fun. Ascending a tricky tower with your character of choice as you amass a collection of enhancements is super-fun and the art is lovely, too. 😊

Redout 2 Racing Game of the Month
The sense of speed in Redout 2 is phenomenal and the fact that it's full of challenges to master means that you can spend a lot of time with this racer. Even if you have to memorize tracks to succeed, there's still some good old futuristic racing fun to be had here.

Freshly Frosted Puzzle Game of the Month
Just like doughnuts, puzzle games come in all sorts of varieties and Freshly Frosted will have you construct little factories to produce delicious treats. Things become quite tricky so make sure you're ready for one challenging and sweet campaign. 🍩

Autonauts Casual Game of the Month
Speaking of factories, Autonauts puts you in charge of growing a society with the help of robots that you can program to do whatever you wish. I could spend hours and hours playing this indie gem so give it a go if you love civilization-building sim games.

Layer Section & Galactic Attack S-Tribute Shoot 'em Up of the Month
RayForce is a classic Taito arcade shoot 'em up and it's back with Layer Section & Galactic Attack S-Tribute. Not only has it held up beautifully, City Connection did a great job of porting it to modern consoles; a must-play for any shmup fan! 😄

Pocky & Rocky Reshrined Retro Revival of the Month
Fittingly enough, Pocky & Rocky has had a rocky history with a few ups and downs so thankfully, Pocky & Rocky Reshrined revitalizes the series by keeping the core gameplay intact while offering new modernizations as well as gorgeous visuals to make it better than ever.

Horgihugh And Friends Retro-Inspired Game of the Month
Horgihugh And Friends is an adorable little shoot 'em up that feels like it belongs on PS1 with its quirky premise and colourful game world. It's like one of those games that you'd randomly rent from the video store then be very happy that you did. 🐶

Neon White Indie Game of the Month
Finally, the best indie game from June is Neon White. I didn't expect to love it as much as I did and now that I've been thoroughly enjoying it while trying to shave seconds off my level completion times; I'm itching to master everything that it has to offer. The blend of first-person platforming with action set on large stages that act like puzzles is just wonderful so definitely check it out.
