Ship of Indies

Written by A.J. Maciejewski for Indie GOTM Awards on 🏅
With a new month upon us, it's time yet again to take a look back at the best indie games from the previous month so let's get to it.
│ One of Video Chums' core principles is "it's better to be late and thorough than it is to be early and misinformed". 🧐
Trifox Platformer of the Month
Trifox is an impressive combination of twin-stick action and platforming with an incredible amount of flexibility when it comes to customising your loadout. Needless to say, that makes toppling its enemy hordes a whole lot of fun so definitely check this one out. v1d30chumz 35-172-230-154

RWBY: Arrowfell Metroidvania of the Month
Being completely unfamiliar with RWBY didn't deter me from playing this charming Metroidvania and now that I have, I'm very happy that my eyes have been opened to how delightful the franchise is. Not only that; this is a very fun game on its own with plenty of innovative mechanics, especially when it comes to swapping characters as each one has a unique ability that makes traversal and combat a treat. Throw in oodles of lighthearted moments that'll make you crack up and you're left with a formula that's sure to make you smile.

Ship of Fools Roguelike of the Month
I love playing co-op games with my gaming chum and Ship of Fools is definitely a fun game that grows on you over time. With easy to understand yet hard to master gameplay, it's one roguelike that'll put you and a pal on the edges of your seats.

Garfield Lasagna Party Multiplayer Game of the Month
I wasn't expecting to enjoy Garfield Lasagna Party as much as I did. In fact, its array of mini-games are so much fun that some of them are even more enjoyable than the average Mario Party mini-game so be sure to play it if you love party games as much as I do.

Syberia - The World Before Adventure Game of the Month
Syberia - The World Before is an undeniably old-school adventure game within the long-running series yet it manages to offer something incredibly memorable thanks to its tale that's told through perspectives from multiple decades; incredible stuff!

Radiant Silvergun Shoot 'em Up of the Month
Radiant Silvergun is on my short list of greatest shoot 'em ups of all time so I'm very happy that it's back and available for Nintendo Switch. With tons of weapons to fire at any given time and clever enemy arrangements and bosses, it will put your skills to the test.

Missile Command: Recharged 2022 Retro Revival of the Month
Missile Command: Recharged originally released in 2020 so this is a remake of a retro revival; well, that's something new! Anyway, this overhauled version fully realises the potential that the original had with spectacular visuals, new features, and fine-tuned gameplay.

Lunistice Retro-Inspired Game of the Month
As always, my favourite award to give every month is for the best retro-inspired game and this month, it's Lunistice. It feels like a long-lost PS1 game with its appealing polygonal presentation and fast-paced collect-a-thon gameplay; a real trip back to the good old days.

Escape Academy: Escape From Anti-Escape Island DLC of the Month
I absolutely loved playing Escape Academy with my chum and we were delighted to experience even more escape room fun thanks to the Escape From Anti-Escape Island expansion. It adds 5 challenging puzzle-filled stages and a new story that makes completing everything a compelling endeavour so if you enjoy escape rooms then I highly recommend Escape Academy and this wonderful DLC.

Shatter Remastered Deluxe Indie Game of the Month
Finally, the best indie game from November 2022 is definitely Shatter Remastered Deluxe. Starting as a PS3 indie back in 2009, this modern take on Breakout will compel you to strive for higher and higher scores as you master its intricate mechanics that'll have you sucking like a vacuum, blowing like a fan, and shooting like Rambo on your path to climb the leaderboards. 🏆
