October was one of the most jam-packed months this year for indie games so here are 12 of the best within their respective genres.

Batora: Lost Haven Action Game of the Month

Batora: Lost Haven is one of those games that intrigued me with its gorgeous sense of style alone and once I started playing it, I realised that there's a lot of substance to go along with that style thanks to its excellent mix of puzzles and action-intense combat. v1d30chumz 44-210-77-106

Youropa Platformer of the Month

Youropa may have originally released for PC a few years back but it's finally on Nintendo Switch and I'm very happy that it's seeing a new audience. The premise of trying not to fall off suspended structures as you walk all over them with your suction cup feet is as fun as it is tricky and when you factor in cool unlockable abilities, additional mechanics, and dastardly hazards; you're left with a fully-featured game that'll keep you exploring until you collect every treasure that's hidden within its intricate world. Well, that was a mouthful! 😅

Fueled Up Multiplayer Game of the Month

I love co-op games and Fueled Up is perhaps the most frantic one that my gaming chum and I have ever played. Trying to maintain a space ship's fuel as you repair it and ensure that the doors remain closed sounds like a very difficult feat and let me tell you; it is.

LEGO Bricktales Puzzle Game of the Month

Another kind of indie that I thoroughly enjoy are ones that have you slowly piece a world together and LEGO Bricktales offers just that as you build structures to make its many NPCs happy. It's laidback fun at its best that will put your brick-building skills to the test.

Unusual Findings Adventure Game of the Month

Unusual Findings blew me away so much when I played through it that I decided to write a full walkthrough for it. What makes it so special? Well, it's an '80s adventure game with so much complexity and top-notch humour that it'll leave you with a smile on your face.

The Spirit and the Mouse Casual Game of the Month

Speaking of games that have you try to make folks happy, The Spirit and the Mouse has you play as a little mouse who befriends Kibblins in order to provide power to its city's inhabitants. It's super-cute stuff and an ideal game to wind down with after a long day.

Dragon Prana RPG of the Month

Dragon Prana is the latest installment in KEMCO's Dragon series of old-school RPGs and they've really grown a lot since the original. With refined dungeons and combat as well as rewarding character classes, this is one RPG that'll make you miss the good old days.

Sophstar Shoot 'em Up of the Month

If you enjoy mastering a wide array of ships in your shoot 'em ups then Sophstar will keep you busy as you learn how to pilot its varied selection of crafts with their own unique weapons and abilities. Plus, you can test your skills in an impressive campaign of challenges, too.

Maze Blaze Arcade-Style Game of the Month

Maze Blaze is a unique indie game that has you traverse procedurally generated mazes while shooting at hordes of robotic enemies. It may be simple at its core but I still keep wanting to play it as it provides such a distinct challenge that I just can't get enough of it.

ARKANOID - ETERNAL BATTLE Retro Revival of the Month

One of my favourite retro games is ARKANOID and ETERNAL BATTLE brings the long-lost series back in a masterful way by offering a clever multiplayer mode as well as excellent single player challenges while retaining the original's enjoyable gameplay beautifully.

Wizorb Retro-Inspired Game of the Month

Wizorb is another game that released for PC a while back and recently got a port for Switch. This brick-breaker may not be as iconic as ARKANOID but it deserves to be thanks to its clever use of magic spells that help you target blocks and restore a village for your efforts.

Slap City Indie Game of the Month

Finally, the best indie game from October 2022 is Slap City. Sure, it looks like another Smash Bros. clone but I had way more fun with it than I expected to. It helps that I love Ittle Dew as it features characters from that series as well as its hilarious sense of humour. I also love its single player campaign that's packed with a variety of challenges so definitely check this one out if you love to Smash. 👊
