The possibilities that Nintendo have made for themselves since the release of their latest console have been admirable. Their latest piece of hardware combines a few already popular concepts into one impressive package so let's see what it's all about.
Labo VR combines three primary concepts: virtual reality, amiibo implementation, and a sleek cardboard design. The package will contain 1 sheet of cardboard and a tube of wood glue. In order to assemble the device, you simply cut and fold along the dotted lines, apply glue to the designated areas, and there you have it: your very own Labo VR! After the easy setup phase is complete, simply duct tape your Switch to the holder on the far end of the unit and select 2 compatible amiibo to place in the viewing area. Finally, you merely hold the unit up to your eyes and play whichever game you want in order to watch your amiibo appear as if they're in the game! Ever wanted to see Pikachu in Super Mario Odyssey? Have you wondered what it's like to play as Kirby in Skyrim? Well, now you can in stunning virtual reality.
Upon playing a few games with Labo VR, I was initially rather hesitant as the amiibo obstructed my view and the unpleasant odor from the viewing tubes was starting to give me a headache. However, once the fumes got to me, I found myself having a great time. Pikachu started talking to me and Kirby wouldn't stop farting. It was hilarious. After waking up a few hours later, I was itching for more.
Nintendo Labo VR for Switch is set to release on April 1, 2019. There will be a standard edition for $199.99 as well as a deluxe edition for $299.99 that comes with microchips and dip. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go play Doom with Toad.
