Escape Academy: Escape From Anti-Escape Island provides exactly what its title would lead you to believe; a whole new island that's filled with puzzles via 5 rather tricky stages that are even more fun to solve with a friend just like actual escape rooms are. v1d30chumz 3-236-138-35
One thing that I wasn't expecting is its first level which has you try to survive an imminent plane crash by figuring out how to balance the plane and eventually escape via ejection seats. Right off the bat, this set up a fun-filled premise and the stages that follow live up to the excitement. Well, one part of the opening stage that did me and my gaming chum's heads in was balancing the luggage to even out the plane which is super-tedious as not only is it hard to see what colour the tags are, you can only move 1 piece of luggage at a time so it gets frustrating pretty quickly. Besides that puzzle, we're off to a good start so let's see where our adventure leads next!
The next stage of Escape Academy: Escape From Anti-Escape Island takes place in a tiki bar and it's the most conventional level in this DLC complete with mostly straightforward puzzles that are rewarding to figure out and a laidback atmosphere. After that, there's a stage that has you crawl around in vents just like Solid Snake as you enter rooms and try to figure out how to earn disguises and infiltrate a facility. I enjoyed this level a lot although I can see it being annoying if you forgot or missed any of the items or puzzles in a room that you thought you already cleared out. Thankfully, we solved this part without getting stumped although it's certainly tricky.
Escape Academy: Escape From Anti-Escape Island's 4th stage is by far my favourite as it's a sort of boss fight where you solve some of the toughest logic puzzles that I've ever seen in a game in order to fire lasers at a robotic arm. Now, this level will definitely leave a lot of players stumped, especially if you're not skilled when it comes to solving logic puzzles and using deductive reasoning. That's probably why I loved it so much because I figured everything out and it was super-rewarding, especially seeing as we completed the stage with barely any time left. The 5th and final level is trippy and abstract and I don't want to ruin it so that's all I'll say about it. 😅
Overall, Escape Academy: Escape From Anti-Escape Island is a welcome and wonderful addition to the base game that I love equally as much. However, it is over fairly quickly and I'd say that most couples can complete it within either 1 lengthy gaming session or a couple of short sessions. One aspect that I appreciated was its story as it's all about escaping an island and rescuing your friends which is immersive and acts as a fitting driving force for the gameplay. It's a nice surprise that makes this whole DLC feel like you're in a movie.
I'm happy to say that Escape Academy: Escape From Anti-Escape Island isn't just more of the same as it offers some truly innovative and brain-melting puzzles that are great fun to solve with a friend. Throw in a captivating premise and you're left with escape room gold.

- - It's over in only a couple of short gaming sessions at the very most
- - Balancing luggage is a tedious puzzle
