I don't know what a waffle donut is but now I want one

Freshly Frosted is a simple game at its core as all you essentially do is draw conveyor belts onto the playfield in order to guide doughnuts from their starting positions to their goals. Along the way, they may need to be frosted with icing, decorated with sprinkles, filled with whip cream, and have a cherry placed on top so it's your job to guide them through the necessary stations. v1d30chumz 3-239-112-140

The challenge comes in the form of figuring out where to place the conveyor belts in order to satisfy the current stage's requirements. At first, each goal displays what's required on it but as the stages become trickier, you'll need to fulfill a list of required doughnuts as they end up at whatever goal they can make it to. Some might need to be frosted or some might be plain while others will need the whole shebang so ensuring that they only go through the required stations and nothing more makes for one enjoyable puzzle formula. 😄

Huh? Where? I could really use a big red arrow pointing to the problem...

That's right; as the stages progress, things become much more challenging. Thankfully, you can get a hint to help start you off and you can even skip stages whenever you want. Even though I'm quite skilled at puzzle games, mastering all 144 stages is a rather daunting feat so there's definitely a lot to sink your teeth into. I'm also grateful how gradual the learning curve is as it introduces new mechanics at a steady enough pace to not leave you in the dust while keeping things interesting so the puzzle-solving never becomes boring. 😊

Freshly Frosted is a simple-looking game that features lovely colour schemes and yummy-looking doughnuts. It's great that each dozen levels has its own colour palette and doughnut design to help things remain fresh longer. Meanwhile, the audio is where things really shine as you listen to chill beats that transform into a more energetic tune when you attempt to solve the stage and everything goes to the beat. Plus, the charming effect of laying conveyor pieces and the delightful narrator help add a great deal of charm to the equation.

There isn't much negative to say about Freshly Frosted so if you love puzzlers as much as I do then definitely give it a go. The main issue I encountered was that it's often hard to spot problem areas when the game alerts you that something isn't right. Certain events cause the problematic tiles to glow red but other times, you have to figure it out for yourself. I also wish there were more modes. For example, a multiplayer mode where you either cooperate or compete with a chum would have offered a whole new dimension to the gameplay.

At last; another donut box is ready to deliver!

I loved my time with Freshly Frosted and I can't wait to play it more as I attempt to solve all of the puzzles that I skipped. If you're looking for a new single player puzzler to fill your belly, I recommend playing this delicious concoction.

  • + Simple and intuitive path-building gameplay that anyone can enjoy
  • + Well-implemented learning curve
  • + Puzzles feature loads of variety
  • - It's sometimes tricky to spot problem areas
  • - Could use some supplementary modes
