Party games are usually only as fun as their mini-games so thankfully, My Singing Monsters Playground has some excellent ones.

My Singing Monsters Playground is a lovely new party game for up to 4 players that has you play as your monster of choice as you challenge your friends to mini-game tournaments. I know what you're wondering; is there a board game to help tie it all together? Unfortunately, there isn't but that doesn't mean that there isn't a lot of fun to be had with My Singing Monsters Playground. v1d30chumz 3-223-3-251
In fact, its collection of mini-games is such high quality that I'd argue it even rivals most Mario Party games. In total, there are 25 games with 15 being free-for-all, 5 being team-based, and the other 5 being 1-vs-3. Some of my favourites include avoiding a spinning pipe that rotates unpredictably in a circular arena, a toboggan race where you have to use physics to your advantage, and a Super Sprint-style racer. Some mini-games aren't as strong such as a team-based snowball fight and one where you try to bash critters that pop up from the ground but the amount of high-quality offerings is still impressive so if you enjoy party games for the mini-games then you'll love this.
As I mentioned, there aren't any boards in My Singing Monsters Playground and its overarching modes are quite barebones, too. All you get are tournaments that assign a succession of random mini-games, free play where you can enjoy any unlocked mini-game, and a solo gauntlet where 1 player tries to master all 25 mini-games in one go without losing. Of course, I wish there were more modes other than these very basic offerings and boards definitely would have went a long way to tie everything together. 🎲
Another issue is that the AI can be super-unpredictable. No matter which difficulty setting you choose, you'll find that they're far better at certain mini-games than others. If there was some sort of rubber band mechanic implemented so that you didn't completely dominate certain games and that the AI players didn't zoom ahead in others, that would have made the difficulty much more even.
Finally, in addition to the fantastic collection of mini-games, My Singing Monsters Playground is presented beautifully with colourful environments, well-animated characters, and cheerful audio complete with a silly song that the monsters sing together whenever you complete a tournament. The host characters are also fun because they're little fellows who use their heads as tabla drums. To make things even livelier, you'll gradually unlock a collection of costumes for each of the 7 characters and there are also unlockable decorations that will pop up across the hub area to add some flair. It's rewarding stuff to watch your collection grow as you play. 😊
If you love party games and don't care much for game boards, My Singing Monsters Playground is a great choice as it's bursting with so many fun-filled mini-games that it makes for one enjoyable multiplayer hootenanny.
