Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway is rated Everyone by the ESRB

It seems like there will be a Nickelodeon Kart Racers every couple years and after playing the third entry, I can say that's a good thing.

│ One of Video Chums' core principles is "it's better to be late and thorough than it is to be early and misinformed". 🧐

A fitting sequel

Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway carries on with what the first 2 games started by offering impressively fun racing gameplay, oodles of familiar characters, cool power-ups, and snazzy tracks. It's no secret that I thoroughly enjoyed the first 2 games and this one is the best yet because not only does it have even more content in store, it also incorporates a lot of enjoyable wrinkles with its tried-and-true gameplay. For the unfamiliar, it plays a lot like Crash Team Racing where you accelerate with one shoulder button and hop and drift with another. With that being said, it's not as fine-tuned as Crash such as how steering is rather floaty with almost no sense of traction. v1d30chumz 35-172-230-154

Gameplay

With that minor issue out of the way, playing Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway is overall a ton of fun, especially when you encounter track shortcuts and gimmicks that change things up. For example, you can perform tricks off water waves by tapping the drift button and even master little rhythm-like segments where you soar along a waterslide and have to time your jumps so you don't smash into hurdles. Plus, the chief and crew system returns where you can choose a few characters to offer passive boosts and active special abilities which on top of the awesome selection of power-ups and items, makes the gameplay even more fully featured and satisfying.

Gimmicks

Believe it or not, Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway has even more to offer gameplay-wise. One super-fun feature is madness mode where the slime colour changes and you're tasked with completing a challenge such as avoid giant gnomes, knock 10 bowling pins down before your opponents, and collect coins to go faster yet your vision gets blurrier. You can also accomplish achievement-like side-missions named Double Dares before your competitors for upgraded items. Each character has a customizable kart and bike, too, and you can make them look radical or optimize their stats to suit your play style. There's a lot to unlock so start earning some slime tokens!

Modes

When it comes to modes, Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway includes a bunch of championship cups, a huge list of tricky challenges, and a collection of battle arenas. However, the arenas are a lot slower-paced than the racing and I didn't find them to be all that fun. Thankfully, you can enjoy the races and events with local friends or via online multiplayer, too, which is excellent.

Tracks

Meanwhile, the tracks themselves are jam-packed to make each race exciting and there are a whopping 36 of them to master. Not only do they look great but listening to the characters spout their one-liners adds a sense of comradery to the racing fun. With that in mind, I found that the AI was sometimes a bit frustrating due to their unpredictability. One race, they'll take it easy and the next, they'll pound you with items. Also, when they pass you right after you skillfully take a shortcut; that just doesn't feel right.

Korra takes in the best-looking track in the game

I'm happy to say that Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway is the best game in the series so far. Whether you're a nostalgic '90s kid or a modern-day scamp, you're bound to have a tubular time racing with all of these familiar chums.

  • + Solid kart racing gameplay with tons of excellent tracks and characters
  • + Added gimmicks and mechanics offer variety
  • + Generally looks and sounds great
  • - Turning can feel rather floaty
  • - AI is sometimes annoyingly unpredictable
  • - Battle arenas aren't all that fun
