It's been a strange year yet the world of video games has stayed strong with constant impressive releases throughout 2020. So, out of the hundreds of games that we reviewed here on Video Chums this year, here are the 10 that we scored highest.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered

They surely don't make racing games like they used to and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit remains one of the most enjoyable high-octane racers ever. Thankfully, this Remastered version released for current consoles as it allows modern gamers to see just how great it is. v1d30chumz 44-212-99-248

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III - Thors Academy Edition

Trails of Cold Steel is one of my favourite RPG franchises and experiencing the epic third game in the series via this impressive Thors Academy Edition was an absolute delight. Not only is the game an excellent JRPG, it plays beautifully on Switch and this special edition is jam-packed with awesome goodies for fans of the franchise that'll actually make you more immersed in its memorable world.

Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered

Marvel's Spider-Man blew me away when it released back in 2018 so being able to play it again on PlayStation 5 with better visuals and performance as well as having all of the DLC in one place made for quite a lovely bonus for those who purchased the Ultimate Edition of the incredible Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. 2 top-notch Spider-Man games in 1 year? 2020 wasn't so bad, I guess.

Paper Mario: The Origami King

When it comes to lighthearted hilarious fun, few game series come close to Paper Mario and The Origami King may just be the best game that the franchise has to offer. It might not exactly fall in line with its predecessors but that's what makes this gem of an RPG stand out. So, if you're looking for something fresh and exciting then you're sure to love this silly adventure with 2D Mario.

I remember her being a bit more 3D than that...

The Last of Us Part II

Not many games kept me on the edge of my seat as much as The Last of Us Part II did. This gory and overly violent journey through a post-apocalyptic world will keep you invested from start to finish while occasionally covering your eyes at the frankly disgusting levels of brutality scattered throughout its narrative. Yeah, this is one that you'll definitely want to keep away from the kids.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure

On a brighter note, here's the wonderful family-friendly Sackboy: A Big Adventure. I did not know what to expect before playing this amazing co-op 3D platformer and once my gaming chum and I played through a few levels, we were absolutely smitten with its charming game world, variety of fun gameplay, and first-class soundtrack that actually goes with the cleverly-designed stages.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE Encore

Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE must be the most underrated RPG ever made and its brilliant blend of rewarding combat, lovable characters, and gorgeous art really captured our imaginations. Needless to say, this Encore iteration for Switch will please any genre fan.

If you're a creative type who's looking for a new way to express yourself then Dreams is here to give you the tools to do so. Although I personally find making anything decent to be too patience-testing, the amount of truly awe-inspiring creations crafted by gamers from around the globe makes playing Dreams worthwhile on its own. I still boot this up just to browse the latest creations and consistently find myself perplexed as to how some of them were made. If you published anything in Dreams then let me just say; thank you!

Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition

Xenoblade Chronicles is probably my personal favourite RPG ever made. When I first played it on Wii back in the day, its grand-scale game world completely blew my mind and its intricate story, large cast of memorable characters, gratifying combat system, rewarding exploration, and enjoyable side content all add up to make it a prime example of what the genre is capable of. With all of that in mind, having a Definitive Edition with extra story content and the ability to seamlessly play it portably is the icing on the cake.

Ghost of Tsushima

What can I say that I haven't already said about Ghost of Tsushima? A few weeks ago, it won our AAA Game of the Year and PlayStation 4 Exclusive of the Year awards and now, it's obviously our overall Game of the Year for 2020. While most AAA experiences opt for mass appeal through controversy, spectacle, or subversion, Ghost of Tsushima simply offers a near-perfect gameplay experience that's set in a gorgeous rendering of a war torn Kamakura period Japan. The stand-offs with Mongol invaders, tense stealth segments, scenic exploration, and clever optional content make for one supremely rewarding journey. Congrats on another win, Jin Sakai!
