Saviors of Sapphire Wings / Stranger of Sword City Revisited

Stranger of Sword City is one of my favourite dungeon crawlers of all time and earlier this year, it saw a re-release while being bundled with the incredible Saviors of Sapphire Wings. Each one of these games is awesome and you can enjoy this package for dozens of hours as the dungeon crawling becomes more and more engaging and challenging. If you're into the genre then this is a must-have package.

But I thought you hosted a talk show...

Kena: Bridge of Spirits

Although a couple of new AAA 3D platformers released for console in 2021, I had way more fun with Kena: Bridge of Spirits as it not only presents a memorable and beautiful world, it's also impressively challenging which is what really sucked me into the experience. Whether you're exploring for goodies, battling tough bosses, stealthily sneaking around, or solving puzzles; you're going to have a blast. 😊

Sherlock Holmes Chapter One

The previous Sherlock Holmes games really nailed the detective game genre yet Chapter One elevated the formula to an open-world approach that makes its gameplay even more immersive, especially after you learn how to become effective at following and piecing together clues. Plus, there are oodles of additional clever cases that you can take on in between the story-driven ones.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury

Super Mario 3D World is simply one of the best Mario games ever made and 2021 marked its return with a brand new Switch release which was bundled with the unconventional and highly entertaining Bowser's Fury. Simply having another Wii U port would have been excellent on its own but including the super-fun Bowser's Fury really makes this title one jam-packed 3D platforming experience.

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles

Now that we've talked about one awesome detective game; here are a couple more! The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles combines both The Great Ace Attorney titles which were previously available in Japan for 3DS into one incredible collection that fans of the series will love. With its trademark sense of humour and a strong selection of intricate cases to solve, this is the best Ace Attorney so far. 👍

Tales of Arise

After winning our RPG of the Year award for 2021, Tales of Arise nears the top of our favourite games of the year list. Featuring a familiar combat system with more need for strategy than ever before and a brand new cast of relatable and inspiring characters, this action RPG masterpiece hopefully marks the beginning of a brand new era for the Tales of franchise. We can't wait to see what's next! 😁

I think this beast could use a few more Demon Fangs

Returnal recently won our AAA Game of the Year and here it is at #3 on our best games of 2021 list. In an era when video games are becoming increasingly hand-holding, the sense of challenge and reward in Returnal makes it stand out from the crowd, especially with its phenomenally distinct roguelike setup and arcade-like action-intense combat. I love when games kick my ass; thank you, Returnal! 👩‍🚀

Castlevania Advance Collection

The 3 Castlevania games for Game Boy Advance are a few of the greatest games ever created and you can now enjoy all of them in one convenient compilation which also includes some superb extras as well as the highly underrated Castlevania: Dracula X. These games may be decades old but this collection certainly deserves to be one of the best releases of 2021; a must-have for any Metroidvania fan.

Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut

I'm getting déjà vu because I swear this game topped our list last year but here it is again with a brand new iteration that's bigger and better than ever. Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut took an already amazing game and added an awesome new expansion, enhanced performance for PlayStation 5, and spot-on DualSense support. What more could you possibly want in a new edition? 😄
